Ann Curry

Ann Curry was born in the United States and is an American photographer and journalist. Over the past forty-five years she has focused her work on reporting human suffering, especially during war and natural catastrophes. Curry has reported from the wars in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Curry's mom is Japanese and her father is an US Navy Sargent. Curry met her mother when she was stationed alongside the father of her parents in Japan after World War II. They were frequently moving due to the service of her dad in the military. Curry finished her high school education at Ashland Oregon. She graduated with a journalism diploma in 1978 from the University of Oregon in 1978. Curry was not able to go to a single school in Alameda, San Diego Oregon or Virginia during the two-year period because her family moved often. Ashland was where she eventually finished her high school. In Medford the following year, she began her broadcasting career at KTVL Channel 10 as an intern. At the age 22, she was able to become the first reporter to be female at KTVL. Then, she stepped on to become an anchor and reporter at KGW KGW, which was which is an NBC affiliate station located in Portland. Then, four years later she moved into Los Angeles and became a journalist at KCBS TV. It was during her association with the channel for a period of 6 years that she was awarded the two Emmy Awards.
